1) Damodar River Valley Project: -
Damodar Dam is India's first large dam. The Damodar
Valley Corporation was established on the 7th of 1948 by the Constitutional
Convention. It is modeled on the US Tennessee Valley Project.
The Damodar Valley Project is called the Roar of India.
This is why there are so many industries in the Damodar Valley. So this is
called India's Roar of India.
Damodar Valley is one of the major industrial areas of
India
2) Bhakra Nangal Project: -
It is the tallest and most important
multipurpose river valley project in India.
It is a joint project of the states of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Sutlej River Dam in Bhakra and Nangal in Himachal Pradesh.
The Bhakra Dam is the tallest (226 m high) dam in Asia.
It has a network of 3402 km of canals and provides irrigation facilities for 14.6 lakh hectares of land.
3) Koshi Scheme: -
Flood control is the main objective
of this project.
The Kosi River is known as the River Tear of Bihar.
This is a joint project of India and Nepal.
The Dam of the Kosi River has been built in the Hanumanganam city of the border of India and Nepal.
The project has irrigated about 8.75 lakh hectares of land. 50% of the electricity generated from this is supplied to Nepal.
4) Hirakud Project: -
This dam is built to Mahanadi, 10 km
from Sambalpur district of Orissa.
Hirakud is 4801m long and is the longest dam in India.
Mahanadi is known as the tear-river of the Orissa River.
The river flows into the states of Chhattisgarh and Orissa in the Dhamatri Sihwa of Chhattisgarh
Mahanadi is a major contributor to Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Orissa for drinking water, irrigation and hydroelectricity.
5) Tungabhadra Project: -
Irrigation Hydropower Production The main objective of
this project is the joint project of the states of Karnataka and Andhra
Pradesh.
The dam was built on the Tungabhadra River at Mallapura
near Hosapete in Bellary district.
This reservoir will be called as Pampasagar.
It provides irrigation and electricity to 5.5 lakh
hectares of land in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
